Using the AI Stock Chat

Cmd+J anywhere on the site opens a contextual AI assistant pre-loaded with the current page's data. Ask anything about any stock or the market.

What it is

A contextual chat slide-over powered by AI. Opens with cmd+j (or ctrl+j) from anywhere on the site.

The assistant has access to the current page's data: if you're on a stock page, it already knows which stock you're asking about. It can also call live data tools to fetch information it doesn't have pre-loaded.

How to open it

Three ways:

  • Keyboard shortcut: cmd+j from any page
  • From a stock page: the "Ask AI" button in the stock hero
  • From the navbar (some surfaces): the chat icon

The chat slide-over takes ~30% of the screen on desktop, full-screen on mobile.

What it knows by default

When you open the chat on:

  • A stock page: the assistant pre-loads price, fundamentals, technicals, conviction, checklist, recent filings for that stock
  • The watchlist page: your watchlist symbols
  • The portfolio page: your holdings (if you're signed in)
  • Anywhere else: general market context, no specific symbol

You don't have to re-type the symbol or context. Just ask the question.

What it can do

Beyond conversational answers, the assistant has five tool-calling capabilities. See The 5 AI Chat tools for the full list. In short: it can fetch live stock data, compare peers, look up financials, scan market overview, and search for stocks by name.

What it can't do

  • Place trades: there's no broker integration on the chat side
  • Predict prices: when asked "will this stock go up", it will redirect to factor-based analysis instead of guessing
  • Replace your judgement: it's an information tool, not an advisor
  • Read your private documents: it doesn't have access to anything outside the platform

Good questions to ask

  • "How has TCS performed this quarter compared to its peers?"
  • "What stocks have a Strong Bullish conviction today in the IT sector?"
  • "Compare HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank on profitability and growth."
  • "What are the upcoming earnings on my watchlist?"
  • "Why might Bharti Airtel be at a 52-week high?"

The assistant is best at questions that have a structured-data answer (comparisons, rankings, current state) or that benefit from synthesis across multiple data sources.

Less-useful questions

  • "Should I buy this stock?": it'll deflect to factor analysis
  • "What's the news on stock X right now?": it uses filing data, not news APIs, so it's behind on breaking news that hasn't been filed yet
  • "Predict the price in 6 months": it doesn't forecast

Usage limits

Every plan has an AI usage meter shown as a share of your budget: Limited on Free, Standard on Pro and Expanded on Max. A quick question uses less of the meter than heavier research, portfolio briefs or deep synthesis. The budget has a weekly and a monthly window, and the chat shows when each one resets.

Where conversations are stored

All chat history is saved securely, keyed to your account. You can view past conversations from the chat slide-over's history dropdown. Conversations are private to you; they aren't surfaced anywhere else or used to train models.
