Connecting Claude to aftermarkets

What this is

If you have ever asked Claude or ChatGPT about an Indian stock, you have probably seen the problem: the numbers are stale, or simply made up. The model was trained months ago and has no live connection to NSE or BSE.

aftermarkets fixes this with an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants call real data sources. Once connected, your assistant can pull live prices, fundamentals, conviction scores, filings, deals, FII/DII flows, and your own watchlist and portfolio, then reason over all of it in one conversation.

In practice it means you can type "Research RELIANCE" into Claude and get a full workup built from actual market data, with 33 tools available behind the scenes covering research, screening, signals, events, mutual funds, and portfolio intelligence.

Setup

   Create your API key

   Go to the Developer dashboard, sign in, and click Create API Key. Give it a name you will recognise later (for example "Claude Desktop").

   The full key starts with am_live_ and is shown only once, at the moment you create it. Copy it somewhere safe immediately. If you lose it, just deactivate that key and create a new one.

   Connect Claude Desktop (the easiest path)

   On the setup page, download the aftermarkets Desktop Extension and open it with Claude Desktop.

   Claude may show a generic warning about local extensions and say the connector needs configuration. That is expected: click Configure, paste your full am_live_ key, enable the extension, and restart Claude. Done.

   Or connect another client

   The same setup page has ready-made configs for every major client. Paste your key into the field at the top and the configs fill themselves in:

   • Claude Code is a single terminal command
   • Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Zed, Gemini CLI get a small JSON snippet for their MCP settings
   • ChatGPT takes the server address under Settings, then Connectors
   • claude.ai and other OAuth-capable clients can skip the API key entirely: add https://mcp.aftermarkets.in/mcp as a connector and sign in with your aftermarkets account

   Run your first query

   Restart your client, then ask:

   • "Give me my morning briefing"
   • "Research RELIANCE"
   • "How is my portfolio doing?"

   If the assistant starts pulling real prices, conviction bands, and filings, you are connected.

What the connection can and cannot do

It can: read live and end-of-day market data, run screens, detect signals, pull conviction scores and AI narratives, read filings and deals, review your portfolio and watchlist, and manage your watchlists and alerts when you ask it to.

It cannot: place trades, access your broker account, see your payment details, or act without you prompting it. It is a research connection, not an execution connection.

One more honest note: conviction scores, checklists, and signals are inputs for your own judgement, not recommendations. The assistant will present them the same way. Nothing it returns is investment advice.
