Uploading holdings via CSV or Excel

When CSV upload is the right move

• You want a one-time import without granting OAuth access to your broker
• Your broker isn't one of the five we support directly
• You have a historical tradebook you want to backfill into the Trade Journal

The two formats we accept

The upload page auto-detects which kind of file you're sending based on the column headers:

Holdings export

A snapshot of what you currently own:

• Symbol
• Quantity
• Average cost
• (Optional) Exchange, ISIN

Most broker holdings exports work directly. Column ordering and header naming are flexible (Symbol / Trading Symbol / Tradingsymbol all work).

After import, every row becomes a position in the Portfolio page with live mark-to-market P&L.

Tradebook export

A history of executed trades:

• Date
• Symbol
• Buy/Sell flag
• Quantity
• Price
• (Optional) Order ID, broker reference

When the file contains Buy/Sell and Trade Date columns, it's treated as a tradebook. Buys and sells are automatically matched to produce closed trades, and unmatched buys become open positions.

Partial closes are handled correctly. A single buy of 100 shares followed by two sells of 50 each will produce two closed trades, not one.

Where the data goes

After parsing:

• Holdings populate the Portfolio page immediately
• Trades (from tradebooks) populate the Trade Journal
• Conviction-at-entry is snapshotted for each trade where the entry date is in the available history
• Catalyst links (filings, corp actions within ±2 days of entry) auto-attach

Limits and quirks

• Max file size: 5 MB
• Max rows: ~50,000 per upload
• Duplicate protection: re-uploading the same file produces no duplicates.
• Unrecognised symbols: any symbol not in our universe (typos, delisted stocks) is reported in the upload result and skipped
• Date formats: ISO (YYYY-MM-DD), DD-MMM-YYYY, and DD/MM/YYYY are all accepted. If you're getting errors, check the date column format.

• Zerodha Kite: Console → Reports → Tradebook → Download as CSV
• Groww: Profile → Reports → Trades → Export
• Upstox: App / Web → Reports → Trade Book → Export
• Angel One: Backoffice → Reports → Trade Book → Export
• ICICI Direct: Reports → Trade Book → Download
• HDFC Securities: Reports → My Trades → Export

These export formats change occasionally. If your latest export doesn't work, the upload result will tell you which column was missing.
