Why connect a broker
Once connected, three things happen automatically:
- Holdings appear in Portfolio with live P&L computed against current market prices
- Trades flow into the Trade Journal: buys and sells are matched automatically to produce open and closed positions
- Conviction-at-entry is snapshotted for every trade, so the journal can attribute your wins and losses to the conviction score at the moment you bought
You don't have to re-key trades. The journal builds itself.
The five supported brokers
Each broker has its own setup quirks. Pick yours:
Zerodha (OAuth)
The cleanest flow. From Portfolio → Connect broker → Zerodha, click "Connect with Kite". You're redirected to Kite, you log in, you approve aftermarkets' read-only scope. Redirected back. Holdings populate within ~30 seconds.
Reads holdings only. No trade execution, no order placement. You can revoke access any time from Kite's connected-apps settings or from our Portfolio page.
Groww (BYOK: bring your own key)
Groww doesn't expose a public OAuth flow. Use API key + secret instead. Generate a key from the Groww trading API console, then paste both fields into the connector. Holdings sync the same way after that.
Dhan (OAuth or BYOK)
Both flows work. OAuth is the default and easier for most users. BYOK is useful if you're managing the connection programmatically.
Angel One (OAuth or BYOK)
Same as Dhan: pick whichever your account makes available. The OAuth flow uses Angel's SmartAPI authentication.
Upstox (OAuth or BYOK)
Same. The Upstox OAuth flow is straightforward; BYOK uses the developer-portal API key.
How sync runs
On-demand only. The portfolio page has a Refresh button that re-pulls latest holdings. There's a 5-minute cooldown between syncs to stay polite to broker APIs.
A daily snapshot of your holdings is also taken automatically each weekday to feed the trade journal's auto-derived trades. You don't end up with duplicate snapshots.
What gets imported
For each holding:
- Symbol, ISIN, broker symbol (in case they differ)
- Quantity
- Average cost
- Exchange (NSE / BSE)
- Instrument type (equity / mutual fund / bond)
The Trade Journal layer adds:
- Buy/sell legs (detected automatically from your holdings changes)
- Per-trade P&L, R-multiple, holding days
- Conviction at entry
- Auto-linked filings or corporate actions within ±2 days of entry
CSV upload as the alternative
If you prefer to keep brokers disconnected, upload a CSV/Excel from your broker's export (Pro and Max). The portfolio page accepts:
- Holdings exports: symbol, quantity, average cost
- Tradebooks: buy/sell legs with date stamps. Buys and sells are matched into closed trades automatically. Re-uploading the same file produces no duplicates.
Max file size: 5 MB. Most major broker exports work directly without reformatting.
