Reading the Technicals tab

Indicators, moving averages, and the full signal list. The right level of detail when you don't want to fire up the chart tab.

What's on the tab

Three sections:

  • Momentum indicators: RSI (14), MACD with signal and histogram
  • Moving averages: SMA 20, SMA 50, SMA 200, and the price relative to each
  • Volatility: Bollinger Bands (upper and lower), ATR (14)
  • Signals: every currently-firing technical signal with strength rating

Reading the indicators

RSI (14)

A momentum oscillator. Values:

  • Below 30: oversold. Often signals a near-term bounce, if the trend hasn't actually broken.
  • 30–50: weak momentum, neutral.
  • 50–70: healthy uptrend.
  • Above 70: overbought. Often signals a near-term pullback, if the trend isn't a strong runaway.

The signals engine watches the 28–35 (oversold-bounce) and 65–72 (overbought-reversal) zones specifically.

MACD

Three numbers: MACD line, signal line, histogram. Decode:

  • MACD positive, MACD > signal → bullish momentum
  • MACD positive, MACD < signal → momentum weakening from positive
  • MACD negative, MACD < signal → bearish momentum
  • MACD negative, MACD > signal → momentum strengthening from negative

The histogram (MACD − signal) visualises the divergence. Crossovers are tracked as bullish/bearish signals.

Moving averages

Three SMAs displayed with price relative to each:

  • Price > SMA 200: long-term uptrend intact
  • SMA 50 > SMA 200: trend confirmed
  • SMA 50 > SMA 200 and price > SMA 50: golden-cross state (bullish)
  • SMA 50 < SMA 200 and price < SMA 50: death-cross state (bearish)

The signals engine fires when these states transition (crossovers).

Bollinger Bands

Upper and lower envelopes (typically ±2 standard deviations from a 20-day SMA). Stretch to the upper band suggests overextension; squeeze of the bands suggests a breakout is brewing.

ATR

Average true range. A volatility measure. Higher ATR = larger typical daily moves. Useful for stop-loss sizing. A common rule is to set stops at 1.5–2× ATR from entry.

The signals section

Every currently-firing technical signal appears here with its strength rating. This is the same list the scanner is matching against, viewed from the perspective of one stock instead of the whole market.

For what each signal means, see every signal type, explained.
